BASSMA is currently in the process of rehabilitating more than 200 deprived families located in numerous areas of Beirut and its suburbs.

In order to provide a better service, we are now working on a project: the "Smiles Center".

In fact, to attain the objective of rehabilitating the most deprived families in Lebanon and to ameliorate the services BASSMA is offering to these families, we need to implement a center that will regroup BASSMA's comprehensive programs, welcoming the families in a cordial atmosphere for more efficiency due to the personalized relationship and follow-up that will be installed thanks to the center.

The center is to be located in a deprived section of Beirut suburbs.

Our criteria of selection for the center location would be in one of Beirut's many mixed religious areas thus allowing cultural interaction.

The aim is to improve the living conditions of the families through Employment and Education services. Therefore, the structural design and decoration of the center are a must, being didactic, designed as a place for Science and Culture:

• Wall drawings on hygiene principles, on human body mechanism, etc.
• Permanent documentaries on screens (Planet Earth, Butterflies, etc.)
• Art Orientation through Classical Music, Permanent Poetry and paintings on a special screen with the name of the author and a description, etc.

Within this all-inclusive center, there will be space for all the programs that BASSMA is currently running. Most of the services are currently offered by BASSMA in different locations. Therefore, from day one, BASSMA will be able to provide the majority of the center services and accommodate them all. The Smiles Center would include:

• Employment Desk, offering career orientation and job opportunities
• Social and Psychological Space, follow-up by Social Workers and psychologists.
• Smiles Resto, will offer daily warm meals
• Educational Space, Special courses for students and tutoring for homework.
• Training Space, professional integration, hygiene and nutrition awareness, parental issues, etc.
• Library, books and scientific magazines.
• Clothes Store, gathered from donations displayed similar to a department store.
• Entertainment room, with regular display of movies and documentaries. It can also be used for special occasions (birthdays, Mother's day, etc.)
• Smiles Atelier, where people learn to make crafts and make profit from them
• Kindergarten, for families where both parents work full time.

Polyvalent design that allows the sharing of resources according to use: workshop, lecture hall, meeting rooms, dinner room, recreational.

The structure could be as follow:

1. Parking
2. Basement: games, cine-club, DVD and Study Space
3. Ground Floor: a small entrance hall, a large room for Resto Sourire with an equipped Kitchen, a room to distribute Food Packs, a Clothes Closet and fitting room, an office and meeting room for social workers and psychologists.
4. 1st Floor: Employment Office for social reintegration, a Training space with LCD projection, a Workshop space for the Smiles Atelier (and a kindergarten if possible)
5. 2nd Floor: Administration

The sustainability of the "Smiles Center" will be assured by:

• Renting the parking for the public
• Renting the recreational space to the public for special occasions (birthdays, etc.)
• Renting the conference room to the public
• Organizing fundraising events in the recreational space, i.e. brunches, lunches, etc.
• The tiny contribution of the families for what they will be using, i.e. LBP 1,000 for each book they rent, LBP 1,000 as an entrance fees for the cine-club, etc.

The Location

Our criteria of selection for the center location would be in a deprived section of Beirut's many mixed religious suburbs where it would be efficient to reach target audience.

BASSMA needs a ground in such regions.

The Construction

BASSMA needs funds to cover the project daily operation cost.

The Furnish

BASSMA needs equipment to furnish the center: office material, computers, couches, tables, chairs, etc.
